 Toor Dal

My entire family loves this daal and it is our weekly or almost bi-weekly affair. I have been posting  lil different recipes but then gave a thought to daily cooking which many people may struggle with. Dal is something which may be a need of everyday cooking. So sharing my version to help your taste-buds taste something different! Enjoy

Ingredients:

Toor/arhar Dal - 3 tablespoons (1/2 cup)
Tomatoes - 2 - sliced
Green chillies - 4 - slit lengthwise
Ginger - 1.5" grated
cumin seeds
oil - 2 tsp
turmeric - 1 tsp
salt - as per taste
Water - 1.5 cup
Method:

Clean and soak the dal for 15-20 mins. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles using enough water , salt and turmeric and wait till the steam escapes (we want it completely mashed dal so it is okay if you give 3 whistles). Check if it is cooked and if required give more whistles. Now heat oil in a kadai. Add cumin seed n let it crackle. Now add grated ginger n fry for 30 secs. Add tomatoes and green chillies and fry for 2-3 mins till tomatoes are soft. Now add the cooked dal and mix...let it cook for another 2 mins and garnish with fresh chopped coriander if you wish. Serve with roti or rice.
